Somdev, Sania rise in singles rankings

sania-mirza-52Riding on their recent successes, Somdev Devvarman leapfrogged to 140th, while Sania Mirza rose to 74th in the latest tennis singles rankings issued on Monday.

Somdev owed his rise to his stellar show at the Legg Mason Classic in Washington, where the Indian qualifier stunned world No. 15 Marin Cilic in the second round before Ivo Karlovic ended his dream run.

Paes moves to number six, Sania slips to 88

Indian ace Leander Paes replaced his estranged partner Mahesh Bhupathi at number six position in the ATP doubles rankings, released on
Monday.

Paes now has 6940 ranking points, just 15 more than seventh placed Bhupathi. Rohan Bopanna moved to 72 with 1705 points after gaining three spots.

Somdev in top 150, Sania 75th

Somdev Dev Varman, India’s No. 1 singles player, achieved his career-best ranking by breaking into the top 150 while Sania Mirza moved up 12 places to 75th in the latest rankings issued on Monday.

Somdev, the US-based Indian, gained four places to occupy the 150th position with 546 points in his kitty.

All eyes on Somdev as India take on Romania in Davis Cup
