On the back of her semi-final run at the Aegon Classic in Birmingham, Sania Mirza has jumped 20 places in the WTA singles rankings.

2005012800371801Sania Mirza rose to No.68, an improvement of 19 places, in the doubles ranking on the back of her strong showing in the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami where she reached the last-four stage with partner Chia-jung Chuang of Taiwan. However, Sania remained at No.100 on the singles list in the WTA released Monday.

Tennis sensation Sania Mirza slipped 13 places to 88 in the WTA singles rankings, released on Monday. In the doubles ranking she lost 9 places to stand at 72.

Serena Williams of the US remains on top of the singles rankings, followed by Dinara Safina of Russia and Jelena Jankovic of Serbia.

Sania-Mattek crashes out of Wimbledon doubles

India’s Sania Mirza and her American partner Bethanie Mattek crashed out of the Wimbledon doubles event after losing in straight sets to Venus and Serena Williams in the quarterfinals Wednesday. Sania and Mattek, seeded 13th, lost 4-6 3-6 to the 11th seed American sisters in almost an hour and a half to bow out of the championships at the All England Club. The match was twice interrupted by rain.
