India’s Sania Mirza retired hurt from her first-round Olympic Games clash against Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic on Monday.
Sania, who only returned to the Tour in June after a three-month absence following surgery on her right wrist, was down 6-1, 2-1 when she pulled out.

Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza today crashed out of the women’s singles event at the Olympics after retiring midway through her opening round match against Czech Iveta Benesova here.
Sania trailed 1-6 1-2 against Benesova before making a tearful exit after her a right wrist injury forced her to concede the match.

Indian tennis queen Sania Mirza has appreciated the idea of playing exhibition matches in Pakistan.
“Its great idea if I get an opportunity to come to Pakistan and play tennis there,” she told reporters on Tuesday night at Olympic Green Tennis Centre after watching her men’s doubles team comprising of Bhupathi/Peas beating French pair of Monfils/Simon 6-3, 6-3”.

Beijing, Aug 13: Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi have slowly but surely blown the cobwebs away. The Indian pair looked the champions they were not long ago as they swept aside the challenge of Brazilians Marcelo Melo and Andre Sa to reach the men’s doubles quarterfinal of the tennis competition at the Beijing Olympics here today.
