India’s Sania Mirza defeated Renata Voracova of the Czech Republic in straight sets to enter the main draw of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami. The 24-year-old beat Renata Voracova 6-4, 6-2 in an hour and 22 minutes in the final qualifying round on Tuesday. Mirza will face Spain’s Arantxa Parra Santonja in the first round.
In the men’s singles, Somdev Devvarman opens his campaign against Italy’s Potito Starace.

Somdev Dev Varman moved up one spot, to rank 98, in the Association of Tennis Professionals ranking chart, released on Monday.
Sania Mirza has also gone up one position in the Women’s Tennis Association rankings.
She stands at No. 159 in the ranking list.

Centre court queen Maria Sharapova, the 2004 champion, was sensationally dumped out of Wimbledon on Wednesday losing 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 to Argentina’s Gisela Dulko in the second round.
In another match Indian number one Sania Mirza tumbled out in the second round, losing 6-4, 6-4 to Romanian number 28 seed Sorana Cirstea.

Somdev Dev Varman, India’s No. 1 singles player, achieved his career-best ranking by breaking into the top 150 while Sania Mirza moved up 12 places to 75th in the latest rankings issued on Monday.
Somdev, the US-based Indian, gained four places to occupy the 150th position with 546 points in his kitty.
