Mixed day for Sania at Nordic Light Open

Stockholm: India’s Sania Mirza opened her singles campaign in the $145,000 Nordea Nordic Light Open on a winning note, defeating French veteran Emilie Loit in straight sets here on Wednesday.
Sania was on the offensive from the start as she swept aside Loit 6-3, 6-2.
“I felt tired and jetlagged, and was expecting a tough match. I am happy I could win in straight sets,” said Sania, who is seeded sixth in the tournament.
Sania will next play Czech Iveta Benesova, who beat Ukranian Tatiana Perebiynis 6-2, 6-2 and has had two days of rest.
However, Sania faltered in her first round doubles match and along with her French partner Nathalie Dechy went down to the French Camille Pin and British Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium. The second seeded Indo-French pair were beaten 6-1 6-7 (2) 7-10 by the unseeded duo in one hour and 27 minutes.

Stockholm: Form continued to elude Sania Mirza and the Indian ace crashed out of the Nordea Nordic Light Open with a gruelling three-set loss to Czech Iveta Benesova in the second round.

In an over two-hour contest, Benesova rallied to beat the sixth- seeded Sania 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 on Thursday.

Sania Mirza is having some difficultly with coming back from her injugries. Sania has hard some tough losses in early rounds of big tournements. Today was no difference, the Indian ace, Sania, lost in three sets to Czech Iveta Benesova in the second round. Sania had won the first set 4-6 but could not finish the match and Iveta won the last two sets 6-3, 6-3. The Hyderabadi girl had already lost in her doubles match just in the first round.

STOCKHOLM: Sania Mirza defeated France’s Emilie Loit to advance to the second round of the Nordic Light Open in the Swedish capital on Wednesday.

The sixth seeded Indian won 6-3, 6-2.
