Sania Mirza overcame a sluggish start to defeat Alison Riske in the first round of the WTA Family Circle Cup in Charleston, USA. Sania, who had entered the main draw through qualifying route, scored a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over the local player to advance to the second round.
Sania will next take on another American Vania King, who ousted 16th seed Russian Vera Dushevina 6-4, 7-6(7) in her opening round of the $ 721,000 hard court event.
