An average outing at Indian Wells tournament cost Sania Mirza 13 places in the WTA rankings and the Indian ace now stands yet again on the verge of dropping out of top-100.With 646 points in her kitty, Sania stands at 100 in the singles and at 87, a loss of 16 positions, in the doubles in the list issued by WTA on Monday.

India’s Leander Paes advanced in the doubles, but Sania Mirza’s campaign at the BNP Paribas Open came to an end after a straight-set loss to Italian Flavia Pennetta in the second round of the women’s singles event, here on Sunday.

Leander Paes advanced in men’s doubles, but it was curtains for Sania Mirza who crashed out of the women’s singles event following a straight-set loss to 12th seed Italian Flavia Pennetta in the second round of the BNP Paribas Open.

Leander Paes has been down a few times in life, but never out. The strong desire to fulfil ambitions and the ability to look at the brighter side have pulled him through many a mental and physical crisis. Look at the present, for instance. Rudely jolted and pushed to a corner by a players’ revolt, Paes showed some defiance before putting his hands up. His captaincy was unacceptable to his Davis Cup teammates and he had to resign.
