The unseeded Indo-Chinese duo lost 6-7 (5/7) 4-6 making way for Raymond and Peschke to enter the final of the prestigious hard court event here late last night.

saniamirzaindiawells_3India’s Sania Mirza and Chia-Jung Chuang of Taiwan (Chinese Taipei) lost to Lisa Raymond of the US and Czech Kveta Peschke in the women’s doubles semifinal of the $4.5 million Sony Ericsson Open tennis tournament. The unseeded Indian-Chinese pair went down 6-7 (5), 4-6 to the the third seeds Friday. Raymond and Peschke will face wild cards Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia and Amelie Mauresmo of France, who beat Switzerland’s Patty Schnyder and Anna-Lena Groenefeld of Germany 7-6 (6), 6-3 in the other semifinal.

Sania-Chuang stun 2nd seeds to reach semis

Continuing their dream run in the ATP and WTA tournament, Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza and her Taiwanese partner Chuang Chia-Jung humbled second seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascual 6-3 7-6(4) to sail into the women’s double semifinal of the USD 4.5 million Sony Ericsson Open here.
On a day of upsets, Sania and Chuang made their presence felt by pulling the rug from under the feet of their seeded opponent whose last ditch effort for a fightback wilted in tie-breaks with the Indo-Taiwan pair seeing it through.

The Indo-Taiwanese pair beat the Spaniards 6-3, 7-6(4) here on Wednesday.
