KUALA LUMPUR:Â Mention the name Sania Mirza, and everyone will immediately recognise the Mumbai-born athlete who became the first Indian tennis player to ever break into the top 50 of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings. It’s hard to imagine Sania Mirza as the ‘mamma’s girl’ she claims to be. In public, she is diva-like, cocky and brash, with her devil-may-care attitude sometimes putting-off. She has that never-say-die attitude, which spurs her on to face challenges head-on. Just when the world at large was tut-tutting about her sliding ranking, Indian tennis star Sania Mirza went ahead and picked up her maiden Grand Slam title in the Australian Open.
Partnered with Mahesh Bhupathi, she won the mixed doubles title beating Nathalie Dechy (France) and Andy Ram (Israel) 6-3, 6-1 in the final in Melbourne. Now that she’s back home, a relaxed Sania chats about her game, chilling out and more.
