Petrova beats 14-year-old Keys at Ponte Vedra

sania-mirza-bikiniTop-seeded Nadia Petrova beat 14-year-old American Madison Keys 6-3, 6-2 in the second round of The MPS Group Championships on Wednesday night.

Petrova, ranked No. 10 in the world, won nine of the last 11 games to beat Keys, who was playing in her first WTA Tour event in the season-opening clay-court tournament.

Sania rises in doubles

However, Sania remained at No.100 on the singles list in the WTA released Monday.

India’s Sania Mirza and Chinese Taipei’s (Taiwan) Chia-Jung Chuang shocked eighth-seeded Spaniards Anabel Medina Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascual to storm into the semi-finals of the $4,500,000 Sony Ericsson Open tennis tournament.

The Indo-Taiwanese pair beat the Spaniards 6-3, 7-6(4) here on Wednesday.

Sania Mirza’s campaign in the $220,000 MPS Group Championships wilted in the first round with seventh seed Alona Bondarenko swamping the Indian in straight sets.

The Ukrainian seventh seeds maintained her supremacy throughout the match to tame Sania 6-4 6-3 and set up a second round tie with sister Kateryna, who defeated Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, 7-6(2) 6-2.
