Sania Mirza’s woeful run of form continued and the Indian ace crashed out of the WTA Bank of the West Classic tournament with a straight-set opening round defeat at the hands of British qualifier Anne Keothavong in Stanford, United States.

There was simply no end to Sania Mirza’s misery in the WTA Bank of the West Classic tennis tournament as after her misadventure in the singles event, the Indian ace made a first round exit from doubles as well.

Keothavong wins first round in California

Anne Keothavong is through to the singles second round at the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Tier II event in Stanford, California.

Keothavong defeated the world No 33, India’s Sania Mirza, 7-6(4) 6-1 on Monday to set up a second round clash against the No 6 seed, Marion Bartoli. The French player is ranked No 15 in the world and finished runner-up at The Championships in 2007.
