BOA cries foul over Sania mom’s role

A senior Bengal Olympic Association (BOA) official is planning to write a letter to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) protesting the inclusion of Sania Mirza’s mother in the Beijing-bound Indian contingent.

A senior official in the BOA, who declined to be named, questioned the rationale behind including Mrs Nasima Mirza in the contingent, while barring Bengal heptathlete Sushmita Singa Roy’s coach Kuntal Roy.

Sania-Mattek ousted from East West Bank Classic

Sania Mirza and her American partner Bethanie Mattek bowed out of the WTA East West Bank Classic tournament after retiring midway through their semifinal match.

Second seeds Sania and Mattek were trailing 2-6, 1-2 when they pulled out of their match against the Czech pair of Eva Hrdinova and Vladimira Uhlirova in the tier II $600,000 hard court event.
