Despite being consistently caught into controversies and injuries, Sania led her way to become No. 1 player in Asia. According to the latest WTA ratings released on Monday, Sania became No. 1 player in Asia overtaking the Chinese player Na Li. Li is currently ranked 32nd, while Sania is ranked 29th in.

Madhya Pradesh High Court has stayed proceedings against tennis player Sania Mirza in the case of alleged dishonour to the national flag.
The Bench of Justice Rakesh Saxena stayed proceedings against Sania Mirza and issued a show-cause notice to the petitioner returnable within four weeks asking why proceedings against her in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Bhopal be not quashed.

Currently, Sania Mirza is ranked 29th in the world, while seeded second at the ongoing Japan Open WTA event. Mirza reached the quarter finals of Japan Open by beating the Australian Casey Dellacqua in the second round. Dellacqua stretched Mirza up to three sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 to reach the quarters.

Sania Mirza successively entered third round of year’s first grand slam- Australian Open after beating a Swiss player Timea Bacsinszky. To beat her, Sania had to struggle for three sets. The match lasted for hour and 44 minutes.

New Delhi, Jan 19 : Eighth seed Venus Williams survived her toughest test at the Australian Open to beat Sania Mirza 7-6 6-4 and reach the fourth round today.
Sania put up a brave fight in the first set, making Williams sweat for every point.
