Was Sania happy or sad when India won?
June 30th, 2010By Jilawatan
Was Sania Mirza happy that India beat Pakistan in their recent ODI match in Sri Lanka or was she sad that her husband’s team had lost? It was something we couldn’t find out as she was away in England then getting ready for Wimbledon.
Sania Mirza
Beating Pakistan, at any sport, is almost like winning a tournament. If she was sad, it wasn’t on display but Sania compounded her misery by crashing out of Wimbledon in the first round. It looks like her tennis career is spiralling downwards dangerously fast.
We hope, for her sake, that she was proud that India went on the win the Asia Cup after a long wait of 15 years. Because from being the toast of India to being the breadcrumb of Dubai is indeed a major double fault.
The girl from the Deccan’s heartland had the stuff that would have helped her climb the tennis rankings ladder. Having turned pro in the summer of 2003, Sania climed to No.27 (August 27, 2007) but being out of action due to a wrist injury saw her tumble to 111 in the rankings. It might go down further after being sent packing from Wimbledon by Germany’s Anglique Kerber on the opening day of the All-England championships.
Once the poster girl for the country with plenty of advertising endorsements, Sania seems to have lost her serve, the set and the match after a highly chaotic wedding to Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik, the ‘munda’ from Sialkot. Right after the wedding, Pakistan Tennis Federation chief Dilawar Abbas said Sania should represent Pakistan in international tennis.
