India’s ace tennis star Sania Mirza entered the women’s singles quarterfinals at the Commonwealth Games on Wednesday with a comfortable 6-0, 6-2 win over Brittany Teei from the Cook Islands.
Earlier on Wednesday, Indian tennis star Somdev Devvarman entered the men’s singles quarterfinals with a thumping 6-0 6-1 win over unseeded Sri Lankan Amresh Jayawickreme.

Three Indian women table tennis players – Mouma Das, Poulomi Ghatak, Shamini Kumaresan – Sunday decided to miss the grand opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games as they wanted adequate rest ahead of their matches Oct 4.

The tennis seedings and the draw for the Commonwealth Games make India look good to win quite a few medals. Somdev Devvarman is the top seed in men’s singles and Sania Mirza second in women’s draw. The famed pair of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi have no challengers for the top billing in men’s doubles.
